Contemporary guitar music of any kind is also becoming increasingly political these days. First and foremost, the UK's post-punk movement has for years presented an exciting and important range of young, thoughtful, angry and significant bands. Musically often fused with the sounds of past cultural revolutions, the underlying inspiration in their own music is unmistakable. Somehow it seems that everything that was musically revolutionary in the past comes together in the protest songs of today.
The British Britpop-grunge-rock band, with their somewhat idiosyncratic name Chappagua Wrestling, conjures up this avant-garde force and convinces on their previous release with an innovative reference catalog that is second to none. First and foremost in their song "Need You No More" one is overcome by lyrical lament à la The Clash, driving drumming fresh from the 1990s, as well as the great swan song in full rock star manner. Pure, soulful, invigorating rock'n'roll with the big social issues of today on the tongue suggest that the still young band will take a promising and important role in the British music scene, and beyond. Their debut album is announced for April 14 this year.
