Music business and lockdown—has the industry gone digital?
Great melodies, dark beats: synonyms for probably the only and best-known cartoon supergroup in the local music world: Gorillaz. As soon as a new release is announced, we listen. Hardly any other band has mastered the shattering of genre boundaries and thus the definition of future pop as well as 2D, Murdoc, Russell and Noodle.
Anyone who has ever traveled the musical cosmos will have felt some sort of connection with a Gorillaz song, emblematic of the Gorillaz's influence on pop culture. The new album "Cracker Island" was announced in spring, for which we now got another single called "Baby Queen". A song that fits in perfectly with the band's aesthetic and, after "New Gold", gives hope for a groundbreaking new album by the Gorillaz. Dreamy, melodic, rhythmic and, above all, atmospheric future pop spreads out here and redefines a genre - if it exists in such a form - again.
